Golden Delicious apples are rightly the most successful apple varieties in the world, as they are among the main varieties not only in America but also in Europe.
Jonathan is a very old apple variety, discovered in the early 1800’s in America, but it was named 160 years ago by Jonathan Hasbrouck, who discovered and drew attention to the variety.
The Jonagold variety was created by crossing the Jonathan and Golden Delicious varieties. This variety is also from America, the first fruit was produced in 1953.
Idared is a Hungarian apple cultivation success. Its domestic spread was motivated by its technological need and excellent shelf life, much like the Jonathan variety. Further over-cultivation is risky.
Summered apples are a Canadian variety from the McIntosh and Golden Delicious apple varieties.
